Chicago-based punk trio, Voice of Addiction, has a sound that Joe Vena of Stereo Killer has called, “traditional, political, unrested-fueled punk rock that un-apologetically digs into some fresh new earth”.
Since the release of Voice of Addiction’s first self-titled album in 2004, this progressive, DIY, rock/punk band has exploded throughout the Midwest, stirring up fans across the country. The band mixes spontaneous drumming, rambunctious guitar playing and one of Chicago’s most skilled bass players with politically-charged lyricism and songwriting that bring together a sporadic combustion of unique musical patterns. Voice of Addiction’s take on the punk rock attitude mixed with their use of genre-mashing breakdowns brings forth a sound that his chaotically crafted.
Although each of V.O.A’s three members have developed their own individual musical skill set and style, the combined works of Ian Tomele, Jeff Walschon and Andy Petty overlap harmonically into a rare, yet fitting collaboration.
V.O.A. has played almost 500 shows in over 6 years of existence, playing the Chicago-area at least once a month at The Mutiny’s, Free Punk Rock Night, a monthly showcase featuring some of the best signed and unsigned punk and rock bands. The band has also been hitting the road every weekend and embarking on many long tours every year.
With tour dates throughout March, including stops in Detroit, Indiana, Cleveland, and in the band’s hometown for the 2nd Wreckingball Punx Fest on St. Patrick’s Day, this is a good time for fans to catch the band premiere new material from the upcoming album, Reduce, Reuse, Resist, which will be out on vinyl and CD in May, just in time for Voice of Addiction’s month-long west coast tour in August with Nine12 Records.
